If Fox’s miniseries revival of The X-Files left you itching for more supernatural on the small-screen earlier this year, the latest original series coming out of Netflix ought to sate your appetite next month.
It’s called Stranger Things, and whisks Winona Ryder off to the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, where an eerie paranormal mystery is afoot. Built around a set-up and old-school aesthetic not dissimilar to Twin Peaks, Netflix’s latest series centers on a young boy who, inexplicably, vanishes into thin air.
And so, with scores of unbearable questions still to be answered, friends, family and local police are “drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.” Color us intrigued.
Written and directed by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, Hidden), Netflix’s eight-episode series introduces a healthy dose of the supernatural to a digital roster that is arguably lacking in serialized spooks.
Also starring David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine, Netflix will unleash Stranger Things on July 15.
