The White Lotus has proven to be one of the best originals produced by HBO, with the star-studded anthology drama winning ten Emmys in 2022 with major prizes given to Jennifer Coolidge, creator Mike White, and Murray Bartlett.
Set in the seemingly idyllic resort The White Lotus, darkness lurks deep within the picturesque hotel and its many chains around the world. The first season was set in Hawaii, with its highly anticipated and equally well-received second season set in Sicily. Following the dramatic conclusion, many are wondering if we’ll be seeing the third outing of the comedy-drama series.
Has The White Lotus been greenlit for a third season?
The White Lotus is already looking like a strong shout not just for the 2023 awards, but potentially 2024 after TVLine reported a third season had been greenlit. The series will see a new cast of characters, so we can only hope you didn’t get too attached to the second season’s cast.
Speaking on the greenlighting of a third season, creator Mike White said there was no other place he’d want to work than with HBO.
“There’s no place I’d rather work than HBO, and there’s no people I’d rather partner with than Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Nora Skinner and their incredible team.
“I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators on The White Lotus.”
While Jennifer Coolidge seemed to be the only actor to return for the third season, with the same TVLine article suggesting her potential return was being kept under wraps, given the events of the season two finale, that seems unlikely.
The exact timeframe for the third season is currently unknown, but given the turnaround between seasons one and two, season three of The White Lotus could be out by late 2023.
