Let’s be honest here: The White Lotus‘ opening credits theme song is a jam. It’s jungly and exotic, like some otherworldly Gregorian chant mixed with Amazonian flute and drums. While this may be hard to believe, there’s actually an even better version that takes everything you love about the song and turns it into even more of a banger.
The “official” remix of the song “Renaissance,” the surprise club hit, comes courtesy of EDM legend Tiësto. The artist is actually a huge fan of the show, he told CNN, and he’s been trotting out his own version at concerts all around the world to much fanfare.
“Fans absolutely love it,” Tiësto said. “Every time it plays in my set you can feel the energy shift on the dance floor and everyone just goes wild. The feeling is electric. I knew the first time I played it we were onto something special!”
Tiësto’s version took off on TikTok, which prompted both the artist and HBO to officially release his take on the track. The song’s original creator is Chilean-Canadian composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer, and Tiësto said he was “instantly hooked” by the song’s “captivating melody.”
“Super excited HBO wanted to make it official,” Tiësto said. “I put my spin on it for my live sets and fans always go crazy for it.” The song has been almost as much of a sensation as the show itself, which has won numerous awards and made even bigger stars of its lead characters like Jennifer Coolidge and F. Murray Abraham, who looks like he enjoys really expensive wine from the 1800s. (Here he is welling up when he realizes people are cheering for him.)
So where can you listen to the remix? Well, it’s currently available on all streaming platforms and of course YouTube, where it was released less than a day ago (as of this writing) and already has almost 30k views. While Tiësto may now have the official version of the song, it’s been popping up on dance floors all across the world in one form or another.
Here’s a handy link with all of the streaming services in one place to choose from. As for what de Veer has to say about the song, he called it “Hawaiian Hitchcock,” which has got to be the best description of it we’ve heard so far.
The first two seasons of The White Lotus are currently streaming on HBO Max.
