Westworld 2.0 is about to go live.
Ahead of the show’s hotly-anticipated return on April 22nd, Entertainment Weekly has today uncovered some tantalizing new intel about the super-secret HBO production, including its ambitions to expand “beyond the park” and into the unknown. Well, we say unknown when the show’s co-creators, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, have already alluded to a possible Samurai theme park, along with four other resorts that operate under the watchful eye of Delos.
And so, Westworld season 2 is a journey outward, while Jeffrey Wright (science chief Bernard Lowe) asked viewers to buckle up, as next month’s batch of episodes is “so much more expansive” that it “makes the first season look like a genteel kitchen drama.” Where do we sign up?
Part of EW’s coverage also alludes to the fact that Westworld season 2 offers up an “all-new Rubik’s Cube narrative puzzle box for viewers to attempt to solve.” And, well, if the opening installment is anything to go by, budding fans will be poring over each and every frame in the search for possible story clues.
And it all begins on April 22nd, when the park’s hosts will be able to rewrite the rulebook, according to Lisa Joy:
The leashes are off. The hosts are now literally able to define themselves. But the question is: How far are you willing to go until you become a reflection of the evil you’re trying to fight?
Adding to that, her creative cohort and real-life husband Jonathan Nolan teased a 10-part saga that will take viewers far beyond the confines of Westworld itself.
We want to feel like the show is rocketing ahead. The first season was a journey inward, this is a journey outward. It’s a search for what else is in the park, and what else is beyond the park.
