With Game of Thrones officially out of the way, HBO has been slowly rolling out a handful of new shows to keep its longtime subscribers interested. While Westworld, Big Little Lies, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver are sure to keep viewers coming back, the entertainment giant has a few dramas in the pipeline as well, a few of which are based on popular novels and written works. Aside from The Time Traveler’s Wife and His Dark Materials – the latter of which I’m pretty excited for – HBO is planning to premiere its take on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s Watchmen in a few short months.
With an ensemble cast that includes Regina King, Don Johnson, Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Louis Gossett Jr., this particular adaptation has been largely kept under wraps for the time being. Story-wise, we know that Watchmen will take place sometime after the conclusion of the source material, though specific plot details are hard to come by. One thing we’re (fairly) certain of though is that it looks like Regina King will be playing a police officer named Angela Abraham, who occasionally trades her badge in for a mask as she takes on the role of a yet-to-be-named masked vigilante.
We’re definitely intrigued by this premise, and HBO seems to know its fans are clamoring for more info. As seen below, the network recently took to Instagram to post a few short clips, all of which show us King’s character as she suits up.
Frankly, it’s not a lot to go off of. Rest assured though, we’ll definitely keep you updated as we get closer to the show’s fall premiere. Until then, make sure you check out Watchmen‘s first official trailer, but be warned – it may pose more questions than it answers.
