Last year, Syfy rolled out a bold mission statement to return to its roots, with the network expressing a particular desire to create science-fiction content that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the seminal Battlestar Galactica. Defiance may not be part of that renewed vision, though one of the more intriguing prospects to emerge on the network’s slate is The Expanse.
Due for a two-night premiere in mid-December, We Got This Covered has the maiden installment of Syfy’s budding hopeful for you to enjoy right now, offering you a sneak peek into a show that has been described as the most ambitious series in the network’s history.
Terry McDonough of Breaking Bad and Suits fame directed the first two episodes of The Expanse, which takes place a full 200 years in the future among the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter. Based on Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck’s best-selling novel series of the same name, Thomas Jane leads the drama as a detective within a corporate security force, with Steven Strait joining the star-studded line-up as the ship’s captain. Shohreh Aghdashloo, Chrisjen Avasarala, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and Florence Faivre round out the core cast.
For more on the show, be sure to read our very own Mitchel Brousard’s glowing review, which concluded the following:
With a gung-ho attitude in adapting its source material and enough endearing grit to fuel an ice trawler, The Expanse twists and careens through its occasionally overbearing set-up and cements itself as the first exemplary sci-fi show on TV in a decade.
