Disney Plus’ upcoming WandaVision is just as mysterious as its two title characters. The show will see Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen reprise their roles as Vision and the Scarlet Witch, but aside from its ridiculous title, few other details have been revealed.
Elizabeth Olsen has hinted that the streaming series may take place in the 1950s though, a drastic shift in setting considering her character last popped up in Avengers: Endgame, which is set in 2023. Sure, that film introduced time travel to the MCU, but if a new rumor is to be believed, Scarlet Witch might not need any help in heading back into the past.
In an interview with MCU Exchange, That Hashtag Show host Charles Murphy revealed his own insider scoop, hinting that WandaVision may introduce a facet of the Scarlet Witch that’s yet to been seen on screen:
“I’ve heard that as this show unfolds, it’s going to find Wanda really starting to come into her power set and that the reality-altering powers from the comic are going to make their way into MCU.”
Despite basing entire franchises on talking space raccoons and gamma-irradiated scientists, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has remained relatively grounded in reality. Unfortunately, this has reduced certain characters’ abilities for the sake of realism, including those of Scarlet Witch, who can pretty much bend reality to her own will. The closest we’ve come to seeing this power fully realized is upon her first appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where she enchants our heroes with horrific visions of their biggest fears.
Considering Vision was violently murdered at the hands Thanos in last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, we know the Scarlet Witch is going to have to pull off a few of her own tricks to bring him back from the dead. And we’ll find out how she does it soon enough, as WandaVision is expected to start production later this year.
