In news that isn’t all too surprising, Deadline is reporting tonight that The Walking Dead has been given a renewal by AMC, meaning that it will be back for an eighth season in 2017. The news arrives a week ahead of the show’s return next Sunday, when we’ll finally – finally – get to see who Negan’s unlucky victim was.

While no premiere date was given for season 8, it’s likely to be with us in October 2017 and will consist of 16 episodes. Speaking about the renewal, AMC head honcho Charlie Collier had this to say:

“Eeny, meeny, miny, more,” said Collier. “What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans. And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us.”

Again, this news certainly isn’t surprising, given the ratings juggernaut that The Walking Dead is, but it’s certainly welcome to hear. Though its had its ups and downs over the years, AMC’s zombie apocalypse series is easily one of the best shows on television, and with a rabid fanbase that only gets bigger and bigger with each passing day, we’re inclined to believe the network when they say that it may outlive us all.

Season 7 of The Walking Dead premieres on October 23rd with an episode that we now know will be titled “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.” Tell us, will you be tuning in? Sound off below and let us know!
