The adventures of fallen angel Lucifer are taking shape over at Fox for its new upcoming pilot. Welsh actor Tom Ellis recently nabbed the role of its leading man, and Lauren German swooped in as his LAPD Detective buddy Chloe Dancer. Now, according to Deadline, the network is seeking to flesh out his Earth-side crew of cohorts.

Lucifer hails from Underworld‘s Len Wiseman and Californication‘s Tom Kapinos, who are directing and writing the show, respectively. Based on the original comic series by DC’s Vertigo label, it centers on Lucifer (Ellis) who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.

24‘s D.B. Woodside is set to play Amenadiel, an angel sent to L.A. to persuade Lucifer to return to hell; Suits‘ Rachael Harris will play Linda, a therapist Lucifer initially encounters when working with Chloe to solve a case; and Sleepy Hollow‘s Nicholas Gonzalez recently boarded as a grizzled LAPD detective.

Since receiving its pilot commitment last year the show has undergone a major shift in style. Originally described as a blow-by-blow adaptation of the comic, created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith and Mike Dringenberg, the series was expected to follow Lucifer’s hedonistic jaunts in the city of angels. More recently, the outline has changed to reflect current small screen trends, and will now roll out in a police procedural format. While that doesn’t sound terribly promising, with Kapinos and Wiseman at the helm, Lucifer might prove to be a surprising series.
