It’s been a big day for superhero movie trailers from DC, but Marvel has now countered that with the first preview of upcoming FX TV series Legion. To say it looks unique would be an understatement, and while this trippy teaser doesn’t exactly make it clear what we should expect in terms of the story, it definitely promises a pretty fun time.
Set to debut in early 2017, Legion focuses on a troubled young man who may be more than human. It introduces the story of David Haller, who since he was a teenager, has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.
[zergpaid]Created by Fargo’s Noah Hawley, Legion stars Dan Stevens in the title role and has an impressive ensemble cast made up of Rachel Keller (Fargo), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) and Jean Smart (Fargo). It’s also been confirmed that it won’t be set in the X-Men movie universe, which has left fans with a long list of questions.
For starters, does this world feature another version of the superhero team, or are mutants just a part of everyday life? That’s something the series will hopefully address quite quickly, because as great as Legion looks, it’s still going to have to find a way to honour the source material if Marvel and FX have any hope of keeping comic book fans interesting in coming back to it every week.
