It seems The Walking Dead‘s (shrinking) viewership may not have seen the last of Maggie Rhee.
Lauren Cohan’s series stalwart was quietly written out of season 9 immediately after the 18-month time jump – ditto for Rick Grimes – leaving many to wonder whether we’ll ever see Maggie again. Well, if series showrunner Angela Kang has her way, Cohan’s fan-favorite will be back for another spell of zombie drama next year, when The Walking Dead will be in the throes of its 10th season.
Via ComicBook.com:
We will hopefully come back to Maggie’s story in Season 10. Lauren and I have been texting about some things, and we’re hopefully gonna schedule a conversation, but Georgie’s group is definitely out there in world doing some stuff, and I have some notion of what they’re up to. They may also be part of the universe in general. That’s really up to Scott, but we’ll see how it all plays out.
Kang even went so far as to say that Cohan’s return is all but inevitable, as Maggie’s second coming is said to have a major impact on the story and overall direction of The Walking Dead season 10. Further details weren’t disclosed (no surprise there), as Kang and her team are still hard at work preparing the second half of season 9 and all of the many surprises still to come.
When asked straight-up about Cohan’s TWD future, Kang told ComicBook.com:
It’s funny, on the show we often do that just no matter what the circumstances are. We often go down multiple paths before we kind of decide on something, but I’m operating off of the idea that hopefully we’ll get Lauren back. We’ve certainly been talking about it, so we’ll see, but yeah.
Season 9 of AMC’s The Walking Dead reaches its midseason finale this coming weekend with “Evolution,” by which point viewers should have a pretty good understanding of the Whisperers and their creepy ways.
