‘The Walking Dead’ final season only has 3 episodes left to shoot

'The Walking Dead' only has three episodes left to shoot as production on the final season of the AMC series heads to the finish line.

The Walking Dead is heading toward the finish line. Though only a third of the long-running AMC series’ final season has aired to date, production is much further along. In fact, it’s now been confirmed that there are just three episodes left to film of the mega-sized 24-part eleventh run of the post-apocalyptic drama. After that, the TWD parent series will officially be dead and buried.

Director of photography Duane Charles Manwiller shared a gorgeous black-and-white behind-the-scenes shot of Khary Payton’s Ezekiel over the weekend on his Instagram page. In the comments, one fan asked him how far along filming was on season eleven, causing Manwiller to drop the bombshell: “We only have THREE left to film and the season will be complete.”

The Walking Dead has been such a mainstay on the small screen since it debuted way back in 2010, that it’s hard to imagine it coming to an end. But, of course, it’s only the original show that’s calling it a day, as the franchise will continue on in the form of various spinoffs. There’s no way AMC is going to let this undead cash cow go just yet.

Though The Walking Dead: World Beyond has now completed its planned two-season run, Fear the Walking Dead is still going strong and is currently on its seventh season. Meanwhile, two new spinoffs have been announced to follow TWD season eleven. There’s anthology show Tales of the Walking Dead, which just started production itself last week, and a currently untitled Daryl and Carol show, starring Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride.

When we left Daryl Dixon and the survivors at the end of season eleven part one, they had managed to defeat Pope of the Reapers, but the even greater threat of the Commonwealth is coming. The Walking Dead continues its final season from Feb. 20 on AMC.
