Like the shambling legions of the undead themselves, The Walking Dead franchise just keeps on failing to die. Although the parent series itself finally ended in November 2022, AMC is keeping the post-apocalyptic universe alive with a variety of spinoffs. The Walking Dead: Dead City, starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is just wrapping up its six-episode first season at the time of writing, and next up we have The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, a title that tells you all you need to know.
Yes, this latest spinoff is all about Norman Reedus’ fan-favorite, who has certainly come a long way since he was one of the few characters created from the screen, and not derived from Robert Kirkman’s comics, when TWD kicked off way back in 2010. While Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, and other major players have come and gone, Reedus’ Daryl has proven himself to be the franchise’s most enduring player, and that’s set to continue in his very own show.
For those as hungry for more info about Daryl Dixon as walkers are for the flesh of the living, read on.
What is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon about?
Just as Dead City sent Maggie and Negan to Manhattan, Daryl Dixon will continue to expand the Walking Dead universe by taking things in an international direction. The show will begin with our eponymous hero washing up on the shore of France with no memory of how he got there or why. From there, Daryl will embark on a journey across the broken but resilient nation as he tries to find a way back home. And yet the new connections he makes along the way may change his mind.
Who is in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (besides Norman Reedus)?
TWD fans may be aware that Daryl Dixon was originally announced as a spinoff for both Daryl and Carol Peletier, before Melissa McBride dropping out forced it to be reconfigured. Instead, the series will feature an ensemble cast supporting Norman Reedus. Clémence Poésy — best known as Harry Potter‘s Fleur Delacour — is Isabelle, a member of a progressive religious group with a dark past. Elsewhere, the cast includes Adam Nagaitis (Quinn), Anne Charrier (Genet), Eriq Ebouaney (Fallou), Laika Blanc Francard (Sylvie), Romain Levi (Codron), and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi in a currently undisclosed role. What’s more, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has potentially spoiled some kind of return for McBride, after all.
When is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon premiering on AMC?
Like Dead City before it, Daryl Dixon‘s first season will consist of six episodes, with its premiere airing on AMC this Sep. 10, with subsequent installments arriving Sundays in the weeks to follow. A second season has yet to be announced, but it certainly seems a safe bet to assume that the network is looking to keep Reedus around for even longer as the one and only Daryl Dixon.
