It’s the fabled crossover that just won’t go away – and no, we’re not talking about Telltale’s Clementine hopping mediums to appear alongside Rick Grimes and Co.
Ever since AMC launched its companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, fans have asked the question: will the spinoff and its characters ever cross paths with The Walking Dead? There are certain logistics involved, of course, and AMC brass has gone on record before about wanting to ensure FTWD stands on its own rotting two feet before a crossover could ever materialize.
One actor who isn’t sold on the idea, though, is Daniel Sharman (Troy Otto). Chatting to ComicBook.com about Fear The Walking Dead season 3B and beyond, Sharman cooled talk of a potential crossover. And it’s hard to argue with his reasoning.
I think that would be a bad idea. Here’s my reasoning: the thing is, I think what’s amazing about this world that’s been created over both shows is that the scale of it is so massive, and I think personally not only do you have to deal with the time jump, you also have to deal with the fact that if they do cross over in some way then the world becomes smaller.
Unlike say, The Defenders, which is the culmination of three years’ worth of groundwork, producing a Dead crossover simply to appease fans could throw up all kinds of continuity issues. As Sharman notes, perhaps it’s best if the potential coming together was coincidental and very brief? It’s all hearsay for now, though, given how each group is located on opposite sides of the States.
Season 8 of The Walking Dead, one which promises “all out war,” returns on October 22nd. Fear The Walking Dead, meanwhile, continues on September 10th at 9 pm, and is expected to stretch until the season finale airs in October.
