The Vampire Diaries Review: “We All Go A Little Mad Sometimes” (Season 4, Episode 6)

The Hunter may be out of the picture, but the gang on The Vampire Diaries isn't out of the woods just yet. With Elena's (Nina Dobrev) first kill comes consequences that no one saw coming. No one that is, except for Klaus (Joseph Morgan).

When Damon and Bonnie (Kat Graham) conference with Professor Shane, they find out that the only way to stop Elena’s hallucinations are to find a potential hunter and have him kill a vampire. Luckily for them, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) has already presented himself as the option they need. Which is great for Elena in the right now sense, but in the long-term, doesn’t necessarily seem like the best idea. A vampire living with a vampire hunter, and not in the Alaric sense of it, but in the witch-spelled destiny way, might present a problems at some point.

In the meantime, Elena has some very vivid hallucinations that involve her great-great-great-great many time removed grandmother, Katherine (also Dobrev). Although it was nice to believe that Katherine was actually going to return to town to help save Elena, it’s just a mind trick. It did seem a little like the pot calling the kettle black though. Katherine has proven that she would do almost anything to save herself, even if it meant Elena dying – so to suggest Elena kill herself for what she did seems a bit melodramatic, don’t you think?

Things on The Vampire Diaries ended in everyone’s favor for the most part, but it looks like Stefan and Elena are calling it quits for now. What will this do to Stefan now that he has dedicated so much of his existence to one woman and seems to run on guilt of it these days? And, will Damon really let himself be happy now that he has a real chance with Elena or will he feel obligated to fix things for his brother? As much as Damon loves Elena, he loves his brother more. It’s unfortunate, but history has shown us that when it comes to his happiness, Damon almost always puts Stefan’s ahead of his own. This is the moment he’s been waiting for, but will he take it?

Damon and Elena? Klaus and Caroline? It looks like there’s plenty for The Vampire Diaries fans to rejoice about. Even though we’ve been rooting for our favorite couples to work out, the truth is that consistency makes for boring television, and now that all the romantic ties have been untied, a whole new game of what if’s is about to begin. Who are you most excited to see give it a go?

Until next episode.
