At long last, DC has announced its plans for the Wonder Woman prequel television series that has been in the wings for quite some time.

During today’s press conference, new DCU bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran announced Paradise Lost, which they describe as a Game of Thrones-esque series set in Diana Prince’s island home of Themyscira, will be coming to HBO at an unspecified date in the future.

The show will focus on the political intrigue in the Amazonian court and how its powerful players are locked in a scheming game to take control. Paradise Lost will take place before the events of the Wonder Woman movies starring Gal Gadot.

Ever since the Amazons’ return in WW84 and even Zack Snyder’s Justice League, where they held their own against Steppenwolf for a considerable amount of time before the big bad managed to steal the Mother Box, there have been talks of a spinoff show centering around Themyscira.

It seems that with Gunn and Safran running the show, we’re finally getting that project, though their unique pitch is actually we’d expected to see. A Game of Thrones-style narrative set in the mythological realm? That’s as interesting a premise as any we’ve heard in today’s conference, not to mention that it might also fix the glaring Gal Gadot problem, whose future remains uncertain after Warner Bros. canceled the planned Wonder Woman threequel.

It’s unclear if the actress will indeed make a comeback in Paradise Lost, and the two producers failed to provide a release date for the project, but stay tuned and we’ll let you know if we hear anything more.
