Warning: This article contains spoilers for HBO’s The Last of Us.
Despite being warned about what’s to come in episode six of The Last of Us, no one was ready when the episode recreated another iconic cut scene from the games, word for word. This is just another reminder of how good the original story was and how HBO made it their own, whilst staying faithful to the games.
Episode six, titled ‘Kin,’ recreated the scene where Joel decided that Ellie might be better off with Tommy due to him getting old. This led to an argument between the two since Ellie didn’t want Joel to leave her behind due to her being scared of the outside world. Fans were made aware in advance of the episode’s events thanks to various still images for the upcoming episode circulating social media days before its release, and yet they were surprised at how Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey made the scene their own.
This is one of the handfuls of scenes that The Last of Us recreated from the original video games. From episode one’s Outbreak day to Sam and Henry’s death in episode five, these scenes didn’t deviate from the source material, which made fans appreciate the show even more. While it does try to deviate from the source material from time to time, scenes like these are just a reminder of how good the original storytelling was and how HBO does a marvelous job translating the game for a TV audience.
Episode six of The Last of Us is available to stream on HBO Max
