DC Studios’ The Flash may have been praised to be the best superhero film seen in years, but CW’s The Flash TV series is here to say otherwise. Despite the hype and marketing for the upcoming superhero blockbuster, the latest episode of The Flash made it seem like Grant Gustin‘s portrayal of the character might be the best compared to all the other Scarlet Speedsters in the DC multiverse.
In episode nine, titled “It’s My Party and I’ll Die If I Want To,” Barry Allen faces Ramsey Rosso, aka Bloodwork, after he sabotaged Barry’s birthday party, as well as started his mission to take over the multiverse. The Scarlet Speedster teamed up with Oliver Queen to stop the enemy threat. And it’s through his reunion with Queen that Barry learns that new multiverses sprouted since the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event that aired in 2019.
Before Barry and Oliver said their farewells, Oliver reveals that he’s met different Flashes in the multiverse and that he’s seen “more than enough.” But out of all of them, Oliver was more impressed with Earth-1’s Flash (aka Gustin’s character).
While this comment might the result of a biased friend due to how long Barry and Oliver have known each other, Queen comments on Allen’s history of saving his city more than a hundred times. At the same time, Oliver comments that Barry made him a “better man.”
The conversation ends when Barry asks Oliver if he’s doing enough with his powers. Queen replies by asking the young superhero if his actions “gave people hope” or if he ever felt like he was his city’s “guardian angel.” He finishes his response by reminding Barry that the bolt of lightning “chose him.”
Perhaps that conversation between the two characters is making a slight reference to when people called on DC to recast Ezra Miller with Gustin in the upcoming Flash movie. However, we can’t be too harsh with Miller’s Flash considering that he only appeared in Justice League and will have his solo film soon.
Since fans have witnessed Gustin’s journey as a superhero since 2014, as well as seen his version of the Flashpoint event, it’s no wonder why there might be those who might lean towards Gustin’s version compared to Miller’s, or why they’d consider the TV actor to be part of the film franchise.
Season nine of CW’s The Flash is said to be the end for this superhero series, with the 13th and final episode scheduled to be released on May 24, 2023. New episodes come out each week every Wednesday at CW.
