There are so many things The Flash is guilty of that are rubbing DC fans up the wrong way. Its truly atrocious CGI, the abundance of Ezra Miller, throwing babies in microwaves… The list goes on. Perhaps its most contentious element, though, is its controversial rebooting of the franchise’s timeline. It’s currently unclear exactly who will and who won’t survive into James Gunn’s DCU, but there is a very real risk that The Flash just featured the last appearance of a beloved DCEU icon.
Yes, it’s Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman, who makes a brief appearance in the Scarlet Speedster’s film but only in the early part of the movie before Barry Allen goes and messes up the timeline. The Flash‘s post-credits scene establishes that Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is still part of whatever state the DC timeline is in at this point, but we can perhaps infer that Gadot’s Diana Prince has been wiped from reality alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman.
But if that is the case then the DC fandom will be fuming. As one viral tweet from Twitter user @UsUnitedJustice put it, “Imagine just getting rid of her,” alongside a monochrome photo of the Themysciran princess from Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Unfortunately, it is looking likely that Gadot has donned Diana’s armor for the final time, given that she seems to be weirdly zen about Wonder Woman 3 getting canned and has recently jumped back aboard the Fast Saga. Not to mention kicking off her new spy franchise with Netflix. Then again there is the Paradise Lost Max series on its way, but this could easily reboot the WonderVerse without Gadot’s involvement.
So savor Wonder Woman’s (underwhelming) cameo in The Flash while you can, folks, as it may be her last.
