We haven’t seen the last of Stephen King’s lone gunslinger.
While Sony’s big-screen version of The Dark Tower flopped – and flopped hard, making just $113 million from a budget of $60 million – Amazon is about to journey back to Mid-World for what promises to be a wildly ambitious adaptation. It’ll also be much more faithful to Stephen King’s celebrated novel saga, which will certainly please those who have combed through umpteen pages of genre-blending fantasy.
Exactly when Amazon plans to release its Dark Tower TV series is still up for debate, but with news of an April start date doing the rounds (h/t That Hashtag Show) we can safely assume that Roland Deschain will be tracking the Man in Black far into TV land (and beyond!) by early 2020.
Via THS:
The series will, of course, focus on Roland Deschain, a young boy from a long line of “gunslingers”, and his “ka-tet” comprised of Cuthbert Allgood, Alain Johns, Ileen Ritter and Jamie De Curry in addition to his girlfriend, Susan Delgado. The studio is currently looking at actors and actresses, ages 16-18 for all the roles listed above.
That means Amazon Studios is already casting the net in search of its primary stars – chief among them being Roland Deschain, the gunslinger brought to life by none other than Idris Elba two years ago. And yet, it appears Amazon hopes to distance itself from Sony’s cinematic flop, which explains why it’s taken so damn long for The Dark Tower TV series to gain any tangible momentum.
But fast forward to now, and an April start date is officially on the cards, by which point The Dark Tower will begin shooting across parts of Croatia until late-June. Stay tuned.
