FX is preparing to bid adieu to The Americans, after the network today ordered a final, two-season renewal of the Cold War drama, meaning Philip and Elizabeth Jennings’ captivating journey will reach its climax with season 6.
That’s a two-part finale that will see a 13-episode fifth season make its bow in 2017, followed by the conclusive sixth and final season in 2018, which will be comprised of 10 episodes in total.
First making its premiere in 2013, The Americans continues to be one of the most acclaimed dramas on the small-screen – not lest because of Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys’ excellent performances as the Jennings – and season 4 continued that piping hot streak in style earlier this year.
Now with an end date in sight, FX released the following statement:
“Through its first four seasons, critics have lauded The Americans as one of the best shows on television and, remarkably, a series that keeps getting better every year,” said FX’s president of original programming Eric Schrier. “We have no doubt that this two-season order will allow Joe and Joel to tell this story to its perfect conclusion.”
It looks as though the end is in sight for Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, but what are your thoughts on The Americans winding down in time for 2018?
