There was a short-lived period after Stiles became separated from the Nogitsune physically that may have had you liberally applying hope to the situation. Although it was largely unknown what that meant for the character, the idea that he once again had control of his body (err, one of his bodies) was partially a relief. As Teen Wolf continued this storyline in “Insatiable,” we found out that Stiles is still tethered to his look-a-like self. As the Nogitsune grows more powerful, feeding of the chaos of its’ own creation, the Stiles we know and love grows weaker.
With one more episode left this season, it’s hard to tell if Scott and the collective brains of his pack will be able to solve this riddle. It’s possible that Stiles survival will become the cliffhanger and continue into season four. Allison dying may have been unexpected, but it does create an element of relief. If Allison was the main character that Teen Wolf will be saying goodbye to this season, there’s a greater than average chance that Stiles will be sticking around. Although that may not be the silver lining fans were hoping for, at least she went out with a bang.
This also opens the door for a new female lead. We know that Peter (Ian Bohen) has a daughter, Malia (Shelley Hennig). As it stood, there was already an influx of main characters and another would have been a little on the side of overload. The void created by Allison’s death is an opportunity to bring her in on a larger scale without disrupting the balance. Argent (JR Bourne) may even find her a pleasant distraction when it undoubtedly gets to the point in the story arc where she needs to be kept at a distance from Peter.
