Warning: This article contains spoilers for Ted Lasso season 3
Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) underwent quite the transformation on Ted Lasso. While she was introduced as a prospective love interest in the pilot, she grew into her own and developed a character that was completely independent of the two men who were after her: Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster).
Keeley grew so much, in fact, that in the end, she decided not to settle down with either man. She preferred to go it alone in the finale, buoyed by her professional success and her friendship with characters like Rebecca (Hannah Wadingham). If Keeley were to have chosen between Roy and Jamie, though, who would she have chosen?
While we may never get the answer in the form of a Ted Lasso spinoff, the actress who plays Keeley did offer some clarity during a recent interview with Deadline. Juno Temple was keen to assert that Keeley has reached a point of being comfortable by herself, but that she still feels love for both of her exes.
“I think that that triangle is an incredible support system that actually, hopefully, they’ll all be in each other’s lives forever,” she opined. Temple also felt that by allowing Roy and Jamie to focus on each other, and their roles on the soccer field, that they have been able to mend fences and build a stronger connection themselves. “It’s gonna make Roy a better coach, and it’s gonna make Jamie a better player, ultimately,” she added.
What happened to Keeley on Ted Lasso?
As for which man was right for Keeley, though, Temple feels like there’s only one right answer: Roy Kent. “Keeley knows that for sure, she’s known since the beginning,” the actress explained. Anybody who’s watched Ted Lasso can attest to the chemistry between Keeley and Roy, and the ways in which they helped each other grow as people. Jamie, for all his good qualities, still has a ways to go in terms of maturity.
While Keeley and Roy don’t end up together, there’s a chance the two could run into each other if a spin-off focusing on AFC Richmond women’s team comes to fruition. There’s been no official word on whether a follow-up show is in the works, but Ted Lasso certainly left the door open when it came to Keeley and Rebecca’s future together as collaborators. Temple is game for it.
“I think it would be amazing to see how they would continue to do wonderful things together and also how that then would bleed out into other women passing that on to other women,” she explained. “You see that also with this last season, how it ended with this extraordinary team.”
Regardless of whether we see Keeley again, the character has certainly changed Temple’s life. The actress has become a TV breakout thanks to her charismatic performance and has been nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awards, as well as two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Temple is slated to appear next in the next season of the acclaimed crime drama Fargo.
