Much like Harry Potter before it, Netflix’s Stranger Things has been structured in such a way that each new chapter takes place one year after the last. So while season 2 was set in Hawkins in the year 1984, the third season of the smash hit is poised to jump ahead to 1985, and it’ll seemingly be even darker than previous installments.
Unfortunately, though, we’re learning today that we’re going to have to wait a little while longer before we can return to the aforementioned city and catch back up with Eleven and the gang. And that’s because during the Television Critics Association press tour this week, Netflix confirmed that Stranger Things has been hit with a delay.
A summer 2019 premiere was teased in a recent promo, but this is the first real confirmation we have of the new release window, with the streaming giant saying the following about it:
“It’s a handcrafted show. [Exec producers] The Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy have worked really hard, and they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so they really want to take the time to get it right. I think it’s going to be a fantastic season. It’s gonna be worth the wait.”
Though the plot of season 2 has mostly been kept under wraps, a few set photos have leaked out in recent weeks which give us at least some idea of where the characters will be when they return. Not to mention they’ve also revealed Millie Bobby Brown’s new look as Eleven. Honestly, though, we’re just hoping that the producers can rectify the mistakes they made last year.
Don’t get us wrong. Season 2 was fun and enjoyable, but the thrill of the show was watching the whole gang bounce off of one another and it took a wrong turn when it split up the group for the sake of world-building. Thankfully, then, we’ve heard that season 3 will be more focused on challenging the gang as a unit, which hopefully means they’ll be able to recapture that same magic we saw during the first run of Stranger Things.
