Halle Berry Says Storm And Wolverine Were Lovers In The X-Men Movies

There've been several romantic trysts between the X-Men members across the many movies in the franchise that we've seen so far. Rogue and Ice-Man, Jean Grey and Cyclops, Professor X and Magneto (OK, that last one might not actually be canon)...but here's one you might not have known about before.

Apparently, Storm and Wolverine were once lovers. While talking with EW, Halle Berry – who played the weather-warping Ororo Munroe in the series – revealed that the pair “had a thing” before Logan’s feelings for Jean became too strong.

“Storm and Logan used to be lovers, It’s true. Storm and Logan had a thing … I joke in the movies, I’m like, How come nobody’s loving on Storm. Like what’s wrong with Storm? Nobody is checking for Storm .. So, we decided that Storm and Logan had a thing, and then Jean came and messed that up … When he really decided that Jean Grey was his love that caused a problem … The having two girls at once thing, that didn’t work for Storm.”

If you’re wondering how you missed the sexual tension between the pair on screen, don’t worry – there were never any hints that the characters were a couple in the movies. There was, however, a scene ultimately cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past that hinted that the two were in a relationship in the dystopian Sentinel-controlled future.

It seems that this bit of backstory was just something that Hugh Jackman and Berry cooked up themselves to help them flesh out their characters. You can see why they did it, too. Like the actress jokingly hints at in her comments, Storm was often given short shrift in the films and didn’t have many plotlines based around her character.

Nowadays, of course, Alexandra Shipp has taken over the role, beginning with last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse. She’ll next be seen in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, arriving in theatres on November 2nd, 2018.
