Fresh off the heels of Edgar Wright’s shocking departure from Ant-Man, rumors broke this morning that Drew Goddard had vacated his post as showrunner of Marvel’s Daredevil series. Now, his departure has been confirmed and a replacement has already been announced.

According to the studio, Spartacus showrunner Steven S. DeKnight has taken the reins of Daredevil, so that Goddard can begin work on his Sinister Six film over at Sony. Goddard, who also wrote the first two episodes, will remain on board as a consultant and executive producer.

DeKnight’s has worked with both Goddard and Joss Whedon in the past, so he may actually feel right at home hereIn addition to his three seasons on Spartacus, he worked on Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse. He’s also no stranger to the superhero genre, thanks to his work as a writer and co-executive producer on three seasons of Smallville.

So, while it’s disappointing to see Goddard go, it appears that Daredevil is still in good hands. Of course, this won’t stop the outbursts from fans who feel that this news, along with Wright’s Ant-Man departure, are sure signs of trouble for Marvel. Perhaps the studio should take this opportunity to release some good news for us to carry us through the weekend.

Tell us, what do you think of this news? Do you fear the worst for Daredevil, or do you think the series will do fine under DeKnight’s guidance? Let us know in the comments below.
