Stephen Amell has teased that he’ll be getting a new suit for this year’s big Arrowverse crossover event, which was recently revealed to be titled “Elseworlds.” Apparently, this isn’t just some slightly tweaked costume either, as Amell described it as something he “never could’ve imagined.”
This follows on from a tweet the Arrow star posted halfway through last month in which he said he was just starting work on the crossover, along with an intriguing snap of himself in the make-up chair with some green goop over the lower half of his face. Put together with the actor’s news that he’s getting a revamped outfit, we can infer that this previous photo captured the moment he was being molded for some new form-fitting face mask.
So, what sort of costume could Oliver Queen’s new suit be? Naturally, fans have busied themselves trying to come up with the answer in the replies to his tweet, but Amell’s since said that he’s “read a bunch of responses [but] didn’t see a correct guess.” Back to the drawing board, people.
What we do know about “Elseworlds” is that it will be a three-part adventure, formed by Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl with Legends of Tomorrow sitting out this time around. However, that doesn’t mean it’ll skimp on the superhero quota, as Ruby Rose’s Batwoman will be making her debut and Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman will be returning. Elizabeth Tulloch has also signed on to portray Lois Lane in the crossover.
The title gives us a lot to chew on, too. Elseworlds was the title of a long-running brand of DC comics that were set in other universes disconnected from usual DC continuity. We don’t know how the Arrowverse will re-attribute the term, but it definitely promises that this event will be another one that operates on a multiversal scale. What’s more, the Monitor – the being who overseas the Multiverse – will also appear, as played by LaMonica Garrett.
The arrival of the Monitor usually means that his evil counterpart the Anti-Monitor won’t be far behind, but does that mean the Arrowverse is in for its own “Crisis on Infinity Earths” event in “Elseworlds”? And how does this all tie into Stephen Amell’s costume change? I guess we’ll have to keep watching The CW’s Arrowverse shows to find out.
