Stephen Amell has just been cast as the lead in Arrow, one of three pilots greenlit by the CW this pilot season.
If you’re unfamiliar with Stephen Amell, don’t feel too bad. Amell only recently surfaced as an actor. He played Brady, a werewolf out for revenge, on The Vampire Diaries season 3, the despised Joran van der Sloot in the biopic Justice for Natalee Holloway, a prostitute on Hung, and has a recurring role as a paramedic in Private Practice. In a short time, Amell has went from unknown Canadian actor to potential super hunk.
The project is being produced by Warner Brothers and has a good shot of being picked up by the CW for a full season if filming goes well. The show is based on a retelling of the comic book character. The classic leading two lives ploy will come into play as the Green Arrow doubles as a wealthy playboy politician that fights evil using his mad martial arts and archery skills combined with his knack for technology.
The character was brought to life previously on CW’s hit, Smallville, where Justin Hartley took on the role for several seasons so it will be interesting to see how Amell stacks up against him.
