Brace yourself, Star Wars Rebels fans. There are only a handful of episodes left of the hit animated TV series before it wraps up for good with the end of its fourth season. Having made the decision to curtail the show on its own terms (unlike its predecessor, The Clone Wars), showrunner Dave Filoni has got some big things planned as he hopes to bow Rebels out with a bang.
Thanks to Zap2It, we’ve now got some more details on when the series will return, and what we should expect to happen when it does. From the sounds of things, fans should prepare themselves for the shocking death of most likely a major character.
First up, the midseason premiere will air on Disney XD on February 24th, with season 4’s 10th episode titled “Jedi Night.” Following on from the events of the midseason finale, the synopsis reveals that: “The Ghost Crew infiltrates the Imperial headquarters on Lothal to save one of their own.”
It’s the next synopsis that will really get fans worrying, though. Episode 11 airs on March 3rd and is titled “DUME.” From what we understand, it will deal with the fallout of a huge event in the previous outing, as the synopsis reads: “Reeling from a devastating loss, the Ghost crew rallies together to find a new purpose and resolve.”
So, who could this be talking about? Well, we know for sure that a few characters are definitely safe. Hera Syndulla, after all, 100% survives to live through to the events of Rogue One, as “General Syndulla” was referenced at one point in the movie. Ezra and Kanan are likely going to last at least a few more episodes, too, as Filoni has confirmed that their backstories will be fleshed out before the show comes to an end.
Does that mean that this “devastating loss” could be fan favourite Ahsoka Tano, then? Viewers have often wondered why the Jedi Padawan never showed up in the continuity of the original trilogy, so maybe she just didn’t live to witness those events?
We’ll find out for sure when Star Wars Rebels returns next month.
