After years of failed attempts at making a live-action Star Wars TV show, 2019’s The Mandalorian proved that it not only could be done, but that small screen stories could easily stand alongside epic cinematic adventures. The series helped established Disney Plus, cemented Dave Filoni as a driving force in the franchise, and continues to spawn spinoffs. But the first of them, 2021’s The Book of Boba Fett, wasn’t exactly the home run we’d expected.
Now that the dust has settled, it’s clear that the core concept just doesn’t work. Disney and Lucasfilm will not make a TV show about a heroic crime lord, so their solution was for Boba Fett to be a kind of benevolent gangster boss who doesn’t do crimes except for a light protection racket. That, coupled with some over-familiar Tatooine scenery and some iffy primary-colored moped kids, left a show that fell short of what fans had wished for.
Now they’re attempting to put the world to rights, by asking how The Book of Boba Fett could be saved if a second season was greenlit:
The top-voted reply echoes what most people want. If Boba Fett is a crime lord, then he needs to do crimes:
Others say they should take cues from Andor in depicting the Star Wars criminal underworld:
Another good point is that Boba Fett was often absent from his own show (though tellingly these were the best episodes):
Or, simply, to make him much more of a badass:
He needs to get back his killer edge:
The Book of Boba Fett was created in order to fill a gap in Star Wars scheduling between The Mandalorian‘s second season and Obi-Wan Kenobi, so with many other live-action shows on the way, we doubt if it’ll return for another season. However, it’s also unlikely that Lucasfilm will ignore Boba Fett altogether, so we may next see him in The Mandalorian‘s third season, or in Ahsoka next year.
