Good news, Star Wars fans! It was announced early this morning that as part of an exclusive licensing agreement with the Disney/ABC Television group, all episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be arriving on Netlfix on March 7th, including the sixth and final season, titled “The Lost Missions.” We’ll also be treated to several never-before-seen director’s cut episodes and the 2008 feature film that jumpstarted this fun and impressive series.
This will be the first time that any Star Wars content has been available on Netflix streaming and the company’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, had this to say about the deal:
“Stars Wars is one of the most iconic franchises of all time and this series joins a long line of Disney content that Netflix members are and will continue to enjoy for years to come. The Clone Wars marks an important moment as Netflix welcomes more and more first-run content from The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries.”
This is the first step towards Netflix’s exclusive deal with Disney, which will begin in 2016 and give the subscription service the rights for first-run live-action and animated movies from Walt Disney Animation, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, and Lucasfilm. It is also great news for fans of The Clone Wars, which was quickly cancelled once Disney bought Lucasfilm last year. The show originally aired on Cartoon Network, which is owned by Time Warner, so rather than attempt to bring the show over to ABC, Disney put the kibosh on it and greenlit the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels series in its place.
Along with this announcement, Netflix posted an exclusive clip from season six of the show on YouTube, which you can see below:
