Hot on the heels of news that Bloodwork will be the main villain of season 6 of The Flash, we now have some set photos of the character. The recently released trailer from San Diego Comic-Con, which you can see above, showcases Bloodwork as this season’s big bad, with Sendhil Ramamurthy in the role.
Now, new set photos have emerged via Twitter and Hollywood North of Ramamurthy as Dr. Ramsey Rosso, which show him at a cemetery in what seems to be the same introductory scene from the trailer. Going by the age on the tombstone, the photos appear to reveal that Rosso is attending the funeral of his mother Rachel, with Caitlin Snow as one of the guests.
Of course, Bloodwork is a recent addition to the Flash’s Rogues Gallery, having been created by Joshua Williamson, Pop Mhan, and Christian Duce for the 2017 run of the comic series. For those who don’t know, he’s a physician specializing in hematological oncology who has a past friendship with Caitlin. As with most brilliant scientists on The Flash though, things take a fantastical turn when Rosso’s experiments lead him to a new identity as Bloodwork.
The comics version of the character depicts Rosso as a hemophiliac scientist whose cure gives him the metahuman ability to congeal the blood of others, before becoming a giant blood monster. We actually learned quite a bit about Rosso’s motivation in the season 6 trailer, too, most notably that he has a vendetta against Team Flash, as well as a desire to cure the world of death. The leaked photos give some extra dimension to Rosso’s character, but don’t really confirm if the death of his mother is related to the superhero team.
We’re also currently unsure how Bloodwork’s arc will tie into the looming “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” although we might get a repeat of season 5’s Cicada as a villain capable of being sidelined for different episodes. Furthermore, Godspeed will be making at least one appearance this season, so Bloodwork’s full role might not be as significant as first thought.
Either way, we have a lot to look forward to when The Flash makes its return to The CW on Tuesday, October 8th.
