DC is seeing tremendous success on the small screen right now, what with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and more all doing very well. And while some of their shows do have a certain degree of humor in them already, the company will be diving into full-out comedy with their upcoming series Powerless. Debuting in February and starring Vanessa Hudgens, who leads a cast that also includes Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, Christina Kirk and Ron Funches, it’s shaping up to be a fresh and exciting offering from DC that we really can’t wait for.
With the show set to premiere shortly, promotion is starting to ramp up and earlier this week, a new image was debuted by The Wrap. On the surface, it’s nothing special, as it depicts Hudgens’ Emily Locke holding up a flier. Pretty standard stuff, right? Well, not quite. The interesting part here is the Batman easter egg that’s included. On the flier, you’ll see Kane and Fingers Pub written front and center. As fans of the iconic hero will know, this is a clear nod to Bob Kane and Bill Finger, who created the Dark Knight.
[zergpaid]This isn’t the only nod to Batman that Powerless will include, either. An updated plot synopsis (seen below) was released along with the photo that makes mention of Wayne Enterprises. Whether the connection will be substantial or not is unknown, but more than likely these are just fun references to excite DC fans. That’s not to say a potential crossover with another show or even an appearance from a well-recognized hero is out of the question, but we imagine that Powerless will remain very much its own thing for the time being.
Regardless, you can check out the new synopsis below to see what’s in store come February:
In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.
Powerless premieres on NBC on February 2nd. Tell us, are you looking forward to seeing DC dive into the world of comedy? Sound off the in the usual place and let us know.
