We’ve been told not to expect Secret Invasion to be the same kind of Avengers-level event as the comic book storyline of the same name, but the imminent Disney Plus series will nevertheless feature various familiar faces and ties to the wider MCU. War Machine star Don Cheadle is finally getting to team up with his old pal Samuel L. Jackson, for starters, thereby putting to rights an egregious 13-year-old MCU oversight. And there are likely many more crossover cameos that we don’t know about too.
One of them may just have been uncovered, however, at least going by the optimistic hopes of some online detectives. The unlikely source of this potential casting news comes from the Instagram account of Cobie Smulders, who’ll be reprising her role as Nick Fury’s right-hand woman Maria Hill in the six-part thriller-noir drama. As pointed out by u/NickRomanovf on the r/MarvelStudios subreddit, Smulders just started following none other than Emily VanCamp, alias Sharon Carter/Agent 13/The Power Broker.
The OP did some digging and ascertained that Smulders and VanCamp have never worked together in or outside the MCU before so it is possible that they became friendly while working on Secret Invasion. A surprise supporting role for Sharon would make a lot of sense as well, considering that her being replaced by a Skrull was the number one theory once she was outed as a villain in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The plot thickens! VanCamp is also known to have liked Jackson’s Secret Invasion trailer. These two did actually co-star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but this simple action definitely adds fuel to the flames.
We don’t have any Instagram activity pointing this way yet, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Contessa Val is also a likely cameo contender.
Secret Invasion is scheduled to shapeshift onto streaming this June 21.
