This is almost certainly not a thought that the makers of Secret Invasion intended to spark with the latest episode of the ongoing Disney Plus series, but: where the heck has Vision got to? 2021’s WandaVision was the last time we saw Paul Bettany’s beloved synthezoid, and although he died yet again in that show, he and Wanda promised that they would see each other again. Not to mention White Vision’s flying around out there somewhere on Earth-616.
And yet, two and a half years on, Doctor Strange 2 has come and gone, Agatha: Coven of Chaos is in production, and Marvel has made no official announcement about Vision’s potential return. Nevertheless, MCU fans have been thinking about the perceptive cybernetic being after one scene from Secret Invasion episode three recalled some of his wise words said back in Captain America: Civil War.
As pointed out by commenters on a Reddit thread dissecting the latest installment of the Disney Plus show, Gravik’s speech to the Skrull council about how the Skrulls need to enhance themselves to defeat humanity echoes Vision’s famous warning that “strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict breeds catastrophe.”
Don’t you just miss Vision’s brilliant way with words?
He didn’t hog the screentime, but when he did appear, Vision always made it count.
The good news when it comes to folks missing Vision is that, although it has not been confirmed by Kevin Feige and company as yet, Vision Quest is widely reported to be in the works, which will pick up on the big mystery of what happened to White Vision next. Although he is his own being, let’s hope that WV inherits the OG Vision’s knack for philosophical speeches.
