Given that Scream Queens hails from Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee and American Horror Story, it’s not that surprising that the Fox series will find a lot of teen characters doing their damnedest to break decibel records.
In the brief trailer for the horror-comedy, there’s a whole lot of screaming, yelling and hammy line-reading, all of which was expected from the show, which follows a college campus reeling from a series of grisly murders committed by a terrifying individual in a devil mask.
Emma Roberts stars as the head of sorority KKT, which finds itself at the center of the chaos as various sorority girls wind up targets of the killer. The all-star lineup of celebs includes (in a deliciously meta bit of stunt casting) original Scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele (of Glee), Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee), Abigail Breslin (Haunter), Ariana Grande (Victorious), Nick Jonas (Camp Rock) and Oliver Hudson (Nashville).
No premiere date yet for this one, but when Glee landed on Fox, it was a watercooler hit for the network, and even though the series trailed off drastically in later years, Fox is clearly hoping to pull in the same teen crowd for Scream Queens. As such, the trailers have boasted a confident, teasing vibe – and if Murphy and company have penned scripts to back that up, we could be looking at one of the fall’s most luridly entertaining new series.
