Mackie himself previously said he expects to suit up in the series, as well as commenting that he thinks it’ll explore how Steve Rogers’ best buddies move on with “life after Cap.” Deadline’s exclusive story on Falcon and Winter Soldier further clarified that this is the plan as well, with reporter Mike Fleming Jr. writing that the show will follow on from Endgame‘s final scene.

“I’d heard that Mackie’s accepting the shield from Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame will figure into the miniseries, but the studio had no comment on where it goes.”

Endgame came to a close with an elderly Steve revealing that he went back in time to get married to Peggy Carter. He then entrusts his shield and legacy to Wilson, who’s taken aback and intimidated by the pressure of being the new Captain America, but Rogers encourages him to make it his own. We can imagine that the series won’t rush into dressing Sam up in the red, white and blue but rather, have him struggle with taking on the identity for some of its runtime. Though that’s just speculation.

Deadline also reported that both Emily VanCamp and Daniel Bruhl are set to return in the miniseries, reprising their roles as Sharon Carter and Zemo, respectively.

Falcon and Winter Soldier is set to start shooting this October before it sees a release in August 2020. As always, stay tuned for more.
