Sabrina Not Ruled Out For Riverdale Season 1, New Extended Promo Released

Although Riverdale is only two episodes in, that hasn’t stopped anyone from wondering what’s further down the line. Heck, there was spinoff talk circulating before the pilot even aired.

As we said in the past, if there’s any character occupying the Archie universe worthy of headlining their own series that wouldn’t leave a substantial void in Riverdale itself, Sabrina the Teenage Witch undoubtedly tops the list. And apparently, we aren’t the only ones thinking so, as TheWrap recently brought her up when speaking with showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who teased that she could be showing up sooner than expected:

“We could [see her in Season 1. As I say, never say never, but it’s certainly within the realm of possibility.”

What he had to say next did nothing but add fuel to the spinoff fire:

“As dark as ‘Riverdale’ is, the vision for Sabrina is even darker. Riverdale is on one side of the Sweetwater River and Greendale, where Sabrina lives, is on the other. There’s sort of that mythic idea that on one side of the river there’s one reality and on the other side of the river there’s another reality. So who knows? But yeah, there’s definitely a universe where Sabrina pops up in Riverdale, or there’s a version of Sabrina that exists in her own witchy bubble.”

While Sabrina may exist best in her own “bubble,” introducing her on Riverdale with the possibility of a backdoor pilot would be the smartest option. And even though she would essentially be sharing a universe, Aguirre-Sacasa’s comments sound like they’re likely to take some inspiration from the recent Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series that’s arguably the best horror comic on shelves.

Riverdale airs on Thursday nights on The CW.
