Even though a crossover between Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is no longer likely to occur, us fans who appreciate the darker side of Archie Comics have something else to look forward. And no, it’s not an adaptation of either Afterlife with Archie or Jughead: The Hunger – at least, not yet.
As it turns out, a musical episode is on the way, but unlike the Flash/Supergirl crossover from nearly a year ago that I loathed from top to bottom, this instance seems much more natural. You see, the subversive drama will soon put its own spin on – get this – Carrie: The Musical, with Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) in the lead role.
Set to air on April 18, Riverdale High’s take on the classic Stephen King tale (featuring 11 songs, no less) will be “directed” by “future Tony winner” Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) and a behind-the-scenes documentary will be helmed by Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). And considering that the latter sure loves his narration, this seems like the perfect gig for him.
In addition to the above casting sheet, Entertainment Weekly has released a variety of bios, including this one for Cheryl, which totally seems in character for her:
Cheryl Blossom (Carrie White) is OMFG excited to play the cult-icon and titular role in Carrie: The Musical. She would like thank the cast and crew for their love and adoration, and send a grand bisous to .……………………………………………….. She dedicates her performance to Jay Jay, with love and remembrance. So, while you begin the countdown, be sure to check out Riverdale each Wednesday night on The CW.
