Netflix’s Bloodline chronicles the disintegration of the Rayburn family. Once considered hard-working pillars of their Florida Keys community, the past two seasons have seen all of their skeletons tumble out of the closet in a sea of paranoias, distrusts and bloody retribution. It’s a steamy soup of good people forced into doing very, very bad things.
It seems like it’s to continue, too, if the trailer for the third and final outing is anything to go by. Season 2 ended with Kevin (Norbert Leo Butz) struggling to process his murder of Detective Diaz (Enrique Murciano), while John Rayburn (Kyle Chandler) had had his fill of drama and unceremoniously skipped town. Based on this trailer, we’re in for more betrayals and lies, with the family’s worst impulses front and centre. In particular, it confirms that Sally (Sissy Spacek) is due to find out exactly what her children have been up to, with a scene of her staring out of a window and miserably saying, “you all lied to me.”
Critically acclaimed in its first season, its second outing saw a bit of a rougher ride with the consensus that while the cinematography and performances remained top notch, languorous pacing drained a lot of intrigue and tension from the show. Here’s hoping that they’re learned the lessons for the third season and can recapture the magic that made Bloodline stand out in a crowded Netflix queue. After all, it’s confirmed to be the last season, so why not go for broke?
The final season of Bloodline hits Netflix on May 26th.
