It’s a good thing we won’t have to witness Hannah taking the fall for a murder she didn’t commit any time soon. Mona stepped up to the plate and hit a home run on this episode of Pretty Little Liars. Did you see that coming? I sure didn’t. Although in hindsight, we probably should have. Mona has always been driven by a desire to be the center of attention, and she did genuinely seem to value redemption in Hannah’s eyes. Did she really kill Wilden or is this the final act in her version of a Greek tragedy?
Either way, Mona is sure to be convincing enough to get the DA to drop the charges against Hannah’s mom – fingers crossed. Not only does she have a horrifyingly brilliant mind, but she has the advantage of Hannah’s motive and everything she knew about the specifics of the crime. She can easily flip that around and claim self-defense on her own behalf. Was she using Hannah to get what she wanted all along, or is this the ultimate act of friendship? Mona is definitely smart enough to know how Hannah would fare behind bars.
There have been a lot of characters that have been spotty on this season of Pretty Little Liars, as I mentioned in last week’s review. Tonight we saw the return of one of them. Jake (Ryan Guzman), Aria’s (Lucy Hale) potential love interest made an appearance. He is once again helping her cope with her complicated life. The thing that is most endearing about him is that he’s not complicated. He doesn’t have a long history with anyone in town (that we know of yet), and he doesn’t know about ‘A.’ He’s an escape for Aria, and she desperately needs that outlet right now.
Aria isn’t the only one looking for something outside the drama of her everyday life. Emily (Shay Mitchell) wants to run off to Nicaragua for the summer to build houses. Who can blame her? The police are pulling pieces of a stolen car (mystery driver still on the loose) out of her living room. Her and her mother are staying at a hotel for the foreseeable future. Her mother is a wreck – between the house fiasco and pretty much losing her job. Add to that her shoulder injury that has benched her for the rest of the swim season ergo took her out of the running for a swimming scholarship. Life in Rosewood isn’t exactly rosy.
The only character that is still somewhat focused is Spencer (Troian Belissario). No surprise. Her mother’s access to Wilden’s files gave her a new lead on Toby’s (Keegan Allen) mother’s death. Even though this falls under the ‘side-project’ category, everything that has happened somehow seems to be connected to ‘A’ in a ‘all roads lead to ‘A” type of way. Will Spencer be able to figure it out or will she need some help with this problem?
