Word of Patrick Stewart’s new Star Trek series first emerged in 2018 and since then, we’ve learned of a number of fascinating details about CBS’ planned show, including the fact that it’ll be very, very different from The Next Generation. Not only that, but it’ll also apparently be binge-worthy. Or so says Stewart himself.

The acting legend spoke with Yahoo recently and said that the fact that the series will essentially function as a ten-hour movie means that fans will likely feel the need to binge-watch it.

“We are hoping for more than one season. And with this first [season] – and this is one of the things that is so interesting about the writers’ room – they are writing a ten-hour movie. So, in The Next Generation it was a story, a different story, a different story – all with the same characters, as many series are. But this time it is one story, from beginning to end. I hope that will lead people to binge-watching, because the idea of it being an unfolding narrative is really terrific.”

Meanwhile, in a separate interview with the Empire podcast, Stewart spoke about how excited he is to return to the role, saying that he’s very turned on about going back to Picard.

“I don’t think anything has excited me as much as the prospect of this new Star Trek series is going to do. One of the reasons is for the first time ever I have a co-executive producer role and I am working with brilliant people. Akiva Goldsman – who has an Oscar for writing A Beautiful Mind, and Michael Chabon – who got a Pulitzer Prize. I am so turned on about going back to the character, but it is twenty years in the future. So, it is a very different world that we are going to encounter.”

Of course, with production set to get underway in mid-April, it shouldn’t be too much longer now before we begin to learn more about what’s in store for us. And given that Trekkies have spent decades waiting for a fully-fledged TV show based on Picard’s twilight years, it’s fair to say that everyone’s pretty eager to see how this one turns out.
