If Outlander‘s inaugural season ended on something of a high note, with Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) setting sail for Paris, then our first look at season 2 showcases that new threats are afoot.
Releasing as part of Starz’s 25 Days of #OutlanderOfferings, the all-too-brief clip is just the tip of the iceberg for fans of the historical series, with the network promising that a slew of behind-the-scenes photos, cast interviews and more will be rolled out across Facebook and Twitter over the coming weeks.
In terms of the teaser itself, we see Jamie and Claire coming to terms with French society and their newfound pregnancy, though the imminent battle of Culloden looms large above everything else.
To stoke excitement ahead of its premiere in spring 2016, here’s the official synopsis released by Starz.
Outlander Season 2 begins as Claire and Jamie arrive in France, hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Stuart, and stopping the battle of Culloden. With the help of his cousin Jared, a local wine merchant, Jamie and Claire are thrown into the lavish world of French society, where intrigue and parties are abundant, but political gain proves far less fruitful.
Lifted once again from Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed best-selling novel series, Starz’s sophomore outing will take cues from the author’s Dragonfly in Amber. That’s the second novel from a total of 8 novels penned by Gabaldon in the swashbuckling story, and you can readily expect that Outlander will continue – so long as the series continues to pull in an audience, that is.
Outlander season 2 will plot course for a premiere on Starz in spring 2016. Until then, keep your peepers peeled for behind-the-scenes photos, cast interviews and holiday recipes that will be cropping up via the series’ social feeds as we approach the festive season.
