Even though we’ve reached a point where literally dozens of Netflix fantasy shows have been canceled in the space of the last couple of years alone – the vast majority of which were axed after a single season – there are a small few to survive and thrive, with Welcome to Eden returning with a bang after dropping its latest set of episodes.

The Spanish-language sci-fi thriller didn’t capture many headlines when the initial run dropped back in May of last year, but it nonetheless received a stay of execution. It might even receive another renewal, too, seeing as it’s bucked the trend that blights many broad genre projects by making it back onto the screen a mere 11 months after the previous finale, a rarity when streaming seasons can regularly face waits of two years and above.

Picking up where it left off last time, Welcome to Eden introduced a group of young adults who were invited to a party on a remote and mysterious island, only to find out that nothing is what it seems once they made shore. This time, the danger and mystery only continues to grow, with the dwindling band of survivors saying goodbye to some old faces while welcoming a smattering of newcomers into the fold.

It might not be one of Netflix’s splashiest originals, but Welcome to Eden is certainly proving its worth after FlixPatrol revealed that season 2 had immediately cracked the Top 10 in 51 countries, putting it as the fifth most-watched episodic offering on the entire platform this weekend. Being renewed once is impressive enough given the circumstances, but can it achieve the feat once again?
