Of the several DC TV trailers to have debuted at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, I firmly believe that the one hyping the seventh season of Arrow had to be among the most impressive. Like me, I’m sure many of you were taken aback when seeing Oliver Queen reacquainting himself with some familiar villains in the clink, not to mention someone else running around Star City masquerading as the Emerald Archer. Again, I’m saying it’s probably Roy Harper, but let’s save that conversation for another day, shall we?
For now, we’re going to focus on Oliver and the Supermax prison he now calls home.
As you can imagine, our hero has to do all he can to stay among the living, what with all of those bad dudes now being his neighbors. The trailer we spoke of earlier showcased some brutal shower room fisticuffs, but that’s likely just the tip of the iceberg.
In fact, according to lead actor Stephen Amell himself, we can expect for a morally grey start to season 7, as he had this to say at SDCC:
“One scene in the premiere, what Oliver does is reprehensible. There’s nothing about him that is heroic at all [in the episode].”
If it’s anything less than skinning a guy (something he actually did during a season 5 flashback scene), I’m guessing whatever he’s talking about will be tame by comparison. Still, we should brace ourselves for something that’ll get the fanbase buzzing.
Right now, it’s possible Amell is referring to what he’d previously teased as being one of his favorite scenes to film in the entire history of the series, but it’s very doubtful he’s going to divulge much more than the usual cryptic semi-spoilers.
Arrow returns for its seventh season on Monday, October 15 on The CW.
