With Ewan McGregor’s role in an Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney Plus all but confirmed, there’s been a lot of speculation about what the show will cover. Most predictions are in agreement that it’ll take place between the Star Wars prequels and the Original Trilogy, filling in the gaps on what Obi-Wan was doing on Tatooine. To this end, there’s been rumors about everything from Darth Maul to Darth Vader, and even a young Luke Skywalker making appearances in the series and one new take on the Obi-Wan show is that it’ll borrow from a popular Marvel comic book run.
According to EpicStream, a 2015 run on Marvel’s Star Wars series already provides some rich source material for the Disney Plus show to mine. In the comic, we see how Obi-Wan struggles with his identity as Ben Kenobi, and even crosses paths with a young Luke as he makes an attempt to introduce him to Jedi training. Other plot lines from the series include Obi-Wan taking on Jabba the Hutt, while the twenty year time period between arriving on Tatooine and leaving to rescue Princess Leia presumably involved some more adventures off-world.
In looking at some of the other possibilities for the subject of a Kenobi show, we’ve already brought up the in-universe story from Star Wars Rebels that explores Obi-Wan’s life on Tatooine and his apparently final confrontation with Darth Maul. However, this doesn’t mean that a new series couldn’t work in more material around these events, with our sources indicating that Maul will actually be a key figure in the show.
At this point, we’d be surprised if the Obi-Wan Kenobi project didn’t take on at least some of these key plot points, although it’s possible that Disney might surprise us and go for a completely different time period in the character’s life. In any case, we’re expecting there to be some firmer announcements on the series at D23 next weekend, so be sure to check in for the latest news on this and other Star Wars projects over the coming days.
