Now that it is officially the longest running U.S fantasy television series, Supernatural will surely garner even more attention with its upcoming twelfth season. Having ended on a significant cliffhanger last year, the show that follows brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) as they hunt supernatural entities and creatures will return as even more of a family affair, with mother Mary reappearing.
For more on what to expect from the premiere, you can consult the official synopsis below:
“MAMA WINCHESTER IS BACK — Dean (Jensen Ackles) is overwhelmed as he comes face to face with his mom, Mary Winchester (guest star Samantha Smith). Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) is fighting for his life after Toni, from the Woman of Letters, shot him. Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb (#1201).”
The beauty of Supernatural as a concept is that, even when characters die – as was the case for Mary – they are never really gone forever. Now the brothers are drawn back into hunting with mother, which will have big implications for the resolutions of the previous season’s plot threads.
The CW is keen to hold the interest of its audiences, however, and have also published the episode synopses for the second (Mama Mia) and third (Oh Baby) instalments of season 12.
“RICK SPRINGFIELD GUEST STARS – Dean (Jensen Ackles), Castiel (Misha Collins) and Mary (guest star Samantha Smith) have a lead on Sam (Jared Padalecki) and set out to rescue him. Dean is uncomfortable with putting Mary in danger but she insists on going along. Meanwhile, Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) is tipped off that Lucifer has taken over the body of rock star Vince Vicente (guest star Rick Springfield). Thomas J. Wright directed the episode written by Brad Buckner & Eugenie Ross-Leming (#1202). Original airdate 10/20/2016.”
“OH BABY – When a crying baby leads to death in a mysterious abandoned house, Mary (guest star Samantha Smith), Sam (Jared Padelicki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) decide to investigate. Meanwhile, Castiel’s (Misha Collins) hunt for Lucifer (guest star Rick Springfield) leads him, begrudgingly, to partner up with Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard). Robert Berens wrote the episode directed by Robert Singer (#1203). Original airdate 10/27/2016.”
Supernatural returns to The CW on October 13th 2016.
