As the United Kingdom continues to feel the lasting impact of Brexit, Avengers: Infinity War star Benedict Cumberbatch is journeying back to ground zero for a new TV series based on the historic referendum.
He’s been cast in the role of Dominic Cummings, the leading strategist and Campaign Director of Vote Leave, for a one-off drama series set to explore the behind the scenes goings-on of Brexit, the inescapable term given to the impending withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.
It promises to be a juicy, if somewhat contentious role for Cumberbatch to sink his teeth into (he was a very vocal ‘Remainer,’ after all), and he’ll be joined by Rory Kinnear as Craig Oliver, Director of Communications for then-Prime Minister David Cameron, and John Heffernan of The Crown fame. He’ll be playing Matthew Elliott, political lobbyist and Chief Executive of Vote Leave, with Liz White rounding out the ensemble as Cumberbatch’s on-screen wife, Mary Wakefield.
Have a peek for yourself:
Brexit is simply the working title for Channel 4’s one-off drama, though with filming well underway in the United Kingdom, it shouldn’t be much longer before we have firm details on Cumberbatch’s next TV gig, which is being described as so:
Everyone knows who won. But hardly anyone knows how. The drama is said to be looking at the ‘anatomy of a modern data-driven election campaign, and the divisive figures driving it from the shadows.
Details of Brexit‘s ETA remain locked up in the Houses of Parliament, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on what may well be one of Benedict Cumberbatch’s more enthralling TV roles since Sherlock.
