Victor Strand’s precious yacht may now have been all it was cracked up to be after all. After fleeing to the Pacific coast in search of shelter during the dying embers of season 1, Maddie, Nick and Travis are set to encounter a whole new breed of evil in Fear the Walking Dead season 2.
Now slated for a premiere in April – soon after the finale of AMC’s core series, no less – today’s clip comes by way of Entertainment Weekly, who spoke with Series Showrunner Dave Erickson some time ago about what we can expect going into the show’s sophomore year.
“You’re going to see a bunch of seabound refugees over the course of season 2,” he said. “And much in the same way that we have taken steps to survive and compromised our morals to do so, we’re going to have to deal with some people who have very similar objectives, and the default setting for most of these people is not going to be, let’s all live in harmony and try to build a new community. It’s going to be, how do we protect what’s ours? How do we protect our family? So there’s going to be a very serious threat from other people, as there is constantly on The Walking Dead.”
Retaining the strong family dynamic at the heart of Fear the Walking Dead, it’s fair to say that the network’s adjacent series is returning a lot sooner than anyone anticipated. Even still, while the core cast have fled to the coast, last week’s gripping tease showcased sequences from Los Angeles, proving that there’s still some life yet in the ravaged City of Angels.
AMC is set to premiere the first seven episodes of Fear the Walking Dead on April 10, before the flesh-munching offshoot goes on a summer hiatus. The remainder of season 2 will land in the latter stages of 2016, presumably shortly after the arrival of TWD season 7.
