It doesn’t matter what day of the week it premieres, which country it hails from, or even what the story entails, a mystery thriller with lashings of murder being branded with the Netflix seal of approval is about as nailed-on a success as you’ll find on the entire streaming circuit, with Unseen keeping up the platform’s remarkable hot streak.
Per FlixPatrol, the six-part South African original took only 24 hours to become a Top 10 hit in an impressive 37 countries around the world, immediately placing it as the eighth most-watched episodic offering on the entire library. With the weekend almost upon us, don’t be surprised if it manages to climb even higher by the time the dust settles on Sunday evening.
The narrative takes a darker path than you might expect given the overarching plot revolves around a house cleaner heading out on the search for her missing husband. In an effort to discover the whereabouts of her missing spouse, though, she ends up falling foul of a vicious criminal syndicate, forcing her to drop a surprising number of bodies along the way.
Hard-hitting, occasionally jarring in its violence, and engaging from first to last, Unseen didn’t even need to be halfway decent to make a splash on the viewership rankings, but it always helps if the end product is worth watching. Murder, mystery, multiple bodies, and mayhem is the not-so-secret formula for a major number of Netflix treasures, and you get the sneaking suspicion it’s a sauce for success the company isn’t going to give up on anytime soon.
